Are you making a Documentary???

Question

Hello All,

So for one of my classes I am required to do an ethnography project....I had the wonderful idea of making a documentary....so I went out and bought a spanking new Macbook and using imovie to make it....


My dilema now is that I dont have a SINGLE clue as to how to begining this project...I have a lot of ideas but need some help....anyone out there with some expertise in the field willing to chat online and help me out.....PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! a HUGE portion of my grade depends on this project.

This could be quite a project!... depends on how you do it and how involved it needs to be though. Should be fun as well as a learning curve.

I agree with the previous poster by the way in that it's always best to start with something you know, and it's very helpful to check out other things that are similar to what you're doing (once you get some of the basics in your head from that link, for example)... I always have ideas and improvements when I do that.

First, do something about what you are knowledgable about or have an interest in. Second, do something original. My group made a mockumentary (www.forgottenstars.com), but some thought it was real. Also, check out Peter Jackson's Forgotten Silver. It felt ABSOLUTELY real, but was a mockumentary.

I also cannot stress researching your library on documentary techniques and watch as many as possible until you know what style you want. You are in the most difficult part of a film project, THE START.
