two part question- I have the 2nd overall pick in our fantasy draft. I have one keeper who will be L. Maroney. I want another back, who would you take as a counterpoint assuming LT is gone at #1?

Part 2 - or would you trade down? We have reverse order for even numbered rounds.

I would say Steven Jackson. Jackson gets about 100 rushing yards and 50 receiving yards and a touchdown each game. He is a durable back that gets 30 touches a game.

Another option would be Frank Gore. After a breakout season last year, he has proven he can handle 300 touches a year. Gore gets a lot of yards rushing and receiving, but his touchdown's are fewer than Jackson.

Brian Westbrook is similar to Gore, but he has injury problems.

Shaun Alexander could be legit but he is getting a tad old, and Seattle is not as good as they were two years ago.

Larry Johnson is a good pick, but he doesn't get yards all around only rushing. Also his yards per carry is terrible compared to Frank Gore (4.3 to 5.5). He also had 416 touches last year, an insane amount that could result in injury next year.

Trading down would be a legit idea, but I would take Jackson if he is available at two. A lot of potential with little risk of injury. Gore is a good pick as well, but he has a moderate injury history. I don't think Westbrook is worth it.

There aren't that many good backs after that if you did trade down though.

Also, try to get Maurice Jones-Drew in the second round since he has huge potential for a keeper league. He gets yards everywhere and also returns kicks so you have extra td potential.

Without knowing who is kept, this is tough to say.

I tend to favor injury-free backs, in a "featured back" system, who catch the ball a lot (where possible).

I would stay at #2 and take a top back. It's tempting to trade down, but most of the backs you'll have available have a lot of warts, or you're banking on a return to form. Cadillac Williams, Willie Parker, Deuce, Reggie Bush...

Westbrook is always hurt, though last year was his best. Frank Gore is traditionally an injury machine dating to college, though he too fared well. Is Maurice Jones-Drew going to be a featured back? Who knows.

If you can get your hands on a Steven Jackson, Shaun Alexander, or a Larry Johnson caliber back, I think you have to do that. They are as close to a sure thing as you can get, and you'll still be able to speculate on a risky guy like Travis Henry or Adrian Peterson in a later round.

I think Maroney is going to be an animal for you. That's a smart keeper.

well if it is a keep LT will be kept for sure so you are looking for a top 10-20 guy to draft the best bet for you would be to trade down there aren't that many big names out side of LT or a Larry Johnson but a sleeper this year after a bad season last year is Alexander i would take at number 2 a running back for sure but i really depends on who was kept by the other teams if i know who they kept then i could tell you who to draft/'/

I would trade down, as you can fill more roster spots with quality that way. If you don't get LT, there's a large pool of good players after that.
