Yep, I have a 5-1 testra kit to test the levels of everything in the tank. I have other products please do not think I have gone into this with my eyes completely shut. I know about ph levels and the requirement of the fish - the thing is, i have only dwaf, or very small fish - like tetras and they are absolutely tiny. I ask if not listed on the tanks in shop - whether they'll grow any bigger./ I have books, but - I was just worried about the oversizing. None of my fish have died or seem unhappy - I was just wondergin how many to a tank.
Thanks.

I still maintain that 6-8 or so is the maximum for long term keeping in a tank the size of yours. They may be fine now, but problems will develop due to overcrowding and the over crowding will make other problems far more difficult to deal with.

I wont say much more than Liz except that dont put any large corydoras because they will do a quick swim to the surface for a gulp of air then dive straight down which could scare small fish. But you could add two or three pygmy corydoras which are about an inch big...and you could add two or three dwarf Otocinclus about an inch big and if you have algae on a rock they will eat the algae.

Of the types of fish you have...you can keep 5 guppies, OR the male betta plus two guppies, OR 6 neon tetras in your tank. That's it. A dwarf gourami, even by itself, is not OK for the tank size you have.

What does your water test out to be? It should be as follows--ammonia-0, nitrites-0, nitrate-less than 20. Nitrate-less than 10 is ideal. With the amount of fish you have in your tank, it is unlikely that your water will test out to be healthy for your fish.

Also, fish need room to swim. So many fish "in each others' faces" all the time causes a lot of stress for them. Stress leads to disease, and disease leads to death.
