Though I really like Gorillas, I would have to go with the bear in a straight battle. Of course environment could have major implications, but put in a pit, Conan style the Bear would win.
They are similar in strength. The Bear will outweigh the Gorilla in most cases (assuming we are talking Mountain Gorilla and Grizzly/Kodiak type bear). And the bear has the advantage of being a natural carnivore where the gorilla is a herbivore that can defend itself.
My bet would go on the Bear.

Personal guess: Gorilla.
Didn't Fangs and Claws do this one? (I think that was the name of the show.)
It was on Animal Planet, and it was an animal faceoff show. But no animal was used for the face-offs. What they did was put all the data they already knew about the animals in question into a computer. Then, they created realistic, working robots of the animals (or animal skeletons) to study the animals' attacks, and program that into the computer. When everything was ready, a computer animator would make computer models of the animals, and program a setting into the computer. When all this was ready, a button was pushed, and the computer-animated animals fight.
Here is a few of the face-offs (and the winners) that I remember from the show:
Lion vs. Tiger (Winner: Lion)
Bear vs. Tiger (Winner: Bear)
Lion vs. Nile Crocodile (Winner: Nile Crocodile)
I think they had a gorilla on the show, but I forgot which animal it fought. They even created an elephant for one episode.

Depends on which bears your talking about grizzlies are bigger than 600 lb Silver back Gorrillas eventhough an adult arangitane excuse my spelling has the streghnt of 8 men combined stated on animal planet., you can imajin how strong a gorrils in his prime is.The may only stand 6 feet tall compared to 7 of the Grizzly ,It may have a chance althou I doubt it can hurt that bear.Now to the polars The largest recorded Stood over 11ft tall and weighed 2000lbs All polar are over 9ft 1000lbs and can bust through 6ft of ice in serch of food, the Gorrilla is in a fight with an advanced predator that has enough power to pull a bull walrus out of the water bigger than himself.It's a known killing machine with battle experiance the bear wheter Grizzly or the king Polar the Bear wins.
