I have a finished basement the walls are painted white. Along the baseboards the wall has begun to show a dark brownish-yellow tint. Is this from water? if so what can i do?

It could be dampness. DO NOT go to a Lowe's or Home Depot and ask them. They are sales clerks, and very rarely do they know what they are selling, let alone know what your problem is or the cause or the solution.

If it is moisture, you need to find out why it is getting into the basement. Obviously, water from outside is getting in, but why? Check your rain water run-off - where do the downspouts from the rain gutters discharge the water? Many homes have little splash blocks at the bottom of the downspout. The water leaves the splash block and comes right back toward the house, which is bad. Make sure any water is being led away from the house. Check the ground around the house, looking for the way it slopes. It should slope down away from the house, so the water can drain away from the house. If not properly installed, landscaping timbers can hold back water, and not let it drain away. If you are on a hill, maybe water is running down the hill to you. In that case, it would be a good thing to dig up around the foundation of the house and install a drain pipe down near the bottom of the foundation, to carry the water away.

There are many reasons why water could be getting in to your basement. Call a licensed contractor - and ask them if they have dealt with your particular problem, and if they have, maybe they can help.

Sounds like some kind of water/moisture happening here. could be rising, coming from a crack in foundation , or any number of things... call a professional to come and look at it.

touch the wall where it is discolored, see if it feels damp.i have a full basement also.the one thing concrete does is, crack.no matter what.check with your local hardware& ask if they have a spray to seal it .or, call a contractor just to see what he says before paying him money to solve it.

it sounds like it could be from water. i would call in a contractor and have them look at it, or call somewhere like lowes or something and ask them what you can do.
