how do you respond to someone that wants to shake your hand ?

I can't be rude by saying no to someone who wants to shake my hand. I always wash my hands after I do. Usually the person I shake hands with has sweaty hands. Ewww.

I say get over it and shake their hand! Carry a bottle of Purel if you are that paranoid about it. A hand shake is a form or respect, is a formality in the buisness world, and is considered an insult if you do not shake a person's hand that is extended to you. Unless you are in the orient, pony up and shake the person's hand you rude, OCD degenerate!!

Well if washing and/or sanatizing after shaking hands still doesnt work for you, then you could tell the truth, I'm sure they'd understand. If ya dont wanna do that then you could say something like "my hands are wet/sweaty" or "you don't know where my hands've been". If those don't work for you, then I'm sure you could think of something else on the spot...

I say that I've just sneezed or coughed on my hand, and I don't want to pass on my germs. It works every time, and the other person thinks I'm being super considerate.

I go ahead and shake their hands. Then I can wash them with handiwipes I keep in my purse.
