A long list of frightening timebombs require attention within the next decade. They include:
Global warming: Imagine New York underwater in 50 years.
Oil consumption: Most experts believe that oil production will peak in the next 15 years; after that we can expect to see prices skyrocketing like the North Korean missiles that we think are a bigger problem right now.
Most importantly, the threat of developing nations repeating our mistakes (driving SUVs, coal factories, smoking, warmongering, etc.; we used to think is was cool, too.)

Maintaining the peace, global warming, providing assistance to poorer nations and in general to keep negotiating between two sides who have become hostile.
