look at the floorboards and arrows on your approach. keep a mental note of where you release the ball when you make a good shot so you can duplicate this every time. make sure you are keeping your arm totally straight all the way on the release being sure to lift and follow through. try to master throwing the ball straight first. the curve will come. speed is important also. it will depend on the lane conditions. the dryer the lane, the faster you throw. whereas you need to slow down in that oil so that the ball can work its way to the pocket. having the right equipment is essential also. i weigh 235 and throw a 16 lb. ball. you may be a little smaller and need a 14 or 15lb. one. try out the different sizes at your local alley before you invest in your own ball. it will take a ball custom drilled and fitted to your fingers for you to really take your bowling to the next level. good luck. my high score is a 289. i'm pretty much guaranteed to bowl 200+ every time i step on the lane because i have the same release from the same spot every time. practice to find your spot and you will be fine.

First don't beat yourself up because you are NOT better than the others. You will never be as good as someone who has been bowling for quite some time, but if you just get out there, tune them out, get your stance and follow-through always, with practice you can be a very good bowler.
Helps to have the right size bowling ball, one that is not too heavy for you and the holes are the right size for your fingers.
Good luck and just have fun with it.

Yes. You need to practice. By practicing, you will develop muscle memory, thus enabling you to throw it the same more than once in a row. You also need to do a few other things. First of all if you want to be a serious bowler, you at least need your own ball (or to use the same one every time you bowl) Secondly, when you are on approach and the ball is on the back-swing, visualize keeping your thumb down, and then just as you are releasing, bring your hand up as if you are going to shake hands with someone.
