Is there anyone who can give me a clue about why Disney merged Pixar? What benefit did Disney get?

Thank You!

According to a interview I read in Fortune Magazine, Bob Iler (head of Disney) was at Walt Disney Hong Kong with his children and saw the parade. He noted that the most recent Disney character was Simba, over ten years ago. All the others were from Pixar characters (Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Monster's Inc.) He realized he needed to build more characters - more than the classics that had been around for fifty-plus years.

That plus the movie distribution deal, made him realize that he needed Pixar.

Pixar was going to end its distribution deal with Disney. (The contract ran out after "Cars")

If they didn't merge, then Disney could have seen Pixar's movies released by Warner Brothers, Fox or one of the other studios (and lost millions, billions, even, if Pixar continues to produce megahits)

money money money, if you cant beat your competition, buy them up. its a very elemental part of any corporate business strategy. pixar was selling a product thet was in direct financial jeopardy to disney`s realm, and they were succeeding beyond the dreams of acceptance. how to provide a cure, buy them up when they were vulnerable, like during a labor strike, and they (DISNEY) did. the rest is history. and since then the creative juices from the pixar group has not been seen again.
