You can learn a lot from college, but it is by no means a reqiurement or even necessary to start and build a successful business, especially in this day and age.

Continuous education, by taking action, making mistakes, learning from others, reading books, advisors, etc. is the most important part of business education.

My initial answer is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
(I just recently had to sell a clientbase for my unsuccessful business, then closed the business - so I am a little down on the subject)
SO, I gave the question careful re-consideration and think I'm going to tell you, sort of.
A college education is very important. The more time passes and the more people get a college education, the more important it becomes for everyone to strive for at least an undergraduate degree.
Do you know what business you want to open? See if you can get yourself a program for an internship - so you can earn credits for class while you learn about business. Make sure you absorb as much as you can, accounting and marketing and sales for that particular business type.
Then when you graduate, try to get employed by what would be your biggest competition and learn as much as you can whjile you build up a little nest egg to get that business started!
Good luck!

The kind of college courses you seem to be referring to, may be a business major at your local state-run 4 year university, teaches you theories about business.

If you looking for a how-to step-by-step approach, look for a community college program or a non-credit program that is for small business start-ups.

Contact important associations like your local Chamber of Commerce and the SBA (Small Business Administration) http://www.sba.gov/ for valuable help on how to start and run a successful business. Networking with these organizations and others will help you determine whether you have a viable idea for a business, who your target customers are, and how you are going to get customers to buy your products or services.

Good luck

You don't need a degree to have a successful business. Many just have business sense, or they learned it from others in business. A college degree is nhelpful, but not necessary, and it is by no means a guarantee of success.

Entrepreneurship is the program for you. Take a course or find a school that offers that as a major and you'll be golden.

It really depends on the courses you choose, it is not automatically included in business courses. I would recommend visiting with an academic advisor and see what courses they recommend.
