I just turned 17 and I was wondering what my new legal rights are. I know that town curfew no longer applies to me (not that I ever really followed it in the first place) But I was wondering if 17 is the legal age of consent (meaning I can date whoever I want) Does anyone know for sure??? Also, are there any other rights I am not aware of?? I live in Illinois.

At the national level, you get new rights at 18 and 21.

States and cities may add additional restrictions (such as not being able to drive with passengers or at certain times) based on age. Age of consent in particular varies by state and are generally 16 or 18, but can be as low as 14. In Illinois it is 17, as you said. There are often additional restrictions; for example, in Colorado the age of consent is 17 unless one party is in a position of authority (such as a teacher); in that case it becomes 18.

The legal age of consent in Illinois is 17, so you are legally permitted to consent to intercourse. However, Illinois still has the crime of "fornication" on the books, which is intercourse with someone who is not one's spouse.
The legal age for drinking and gambling is likely 21, as it is throughout the US.
You may hold a graduated driver's license, which limits the number of passengers under the age of 19 that you may have in a vehicle you are driving.
