It is totally a stereotype. The dowdiness is a condition that seems to come along with age, especially men with tubby stomachs. This happens whether people are married or single. The only people it doesn't seem to happen to are the people who work very hard to maintain a trim physical appearance.

that is a deffinate sterotype. My husband was tubby when I met him. The few extra inches doesn't make much diffrence. I don't know a lot of women with pants up to there chest but those that I do are mostly single. Just my observation. could be where you live to that makes a diffrence. Here in Maine we have to work to hard to have time to be fat. We have to put all that tax money in Baldacci's pocket.

Not dowdy, suffocated. I felt like I was in a cage that was closing in on me, while everything I used to be, know and love was trapped outside an getting further and further away.

When you are young, unmarried and shopping for your life in such things, you are quite self-centered. When you are married, have children and have to think of others, not just your selfish self, then you dont' go around wondering if you look good. Life will deal some cards your way, you will have to play them, hopefully they won't be too hard, but be assured you will get through, grow up, get wisdom, and not worry about how you look. Its how well did you play your cards and how much did you get so you could change to something good.

ha ha ha ! Lil! ....well I've been married now for nearly 14yrs and no we both haven't got to that stage yet and I hope we dont! we are more relaxed with each other . I think we would give each other a nudge in the right direction should this start happening! But I have heard of it happening! My friends husband was really slim and now he's a honey monster!

No way! I've been married for 4 years and my husband and I still look hot. I hope I will be like that for a long time. Being married is the best thing ever! I don't miss my single life a bit!

UGH!!!! I am gonna pull my pants up to my chest someday? I thought old men did that! I think I will wear support hose and maybe Depends for leakage control (like my mother) and all my shoes will be flat and ugly. That's not a pretty picture, is it? No. I guess I don't feel it YET!!!

Pants up to my chest?//////////.......hey thats mean!!! I feel a sense of not having to be so competative and some peace, I still try to look my best sometimes but not everyday,,,,,we see beyond that, I love the man, not is (okay I admit it) absent abs......would rather have a nice honest loving man than a fake who goes to the gym.
