I need a welder for basic use, I want to put a gokart together, and maybe a few other things.
What would be a good cheap one to get?

best to buy a mig welder with turbo . machine mart do some affordable one`s . check in the free paper`s ( ad - mag etc ) you can pick a 2nd hand one up for about £150 . a new one will set you back about £250 & upward`s .
Also make sure you get a good quality full face welding mask ( don`t get welding goggles as you will get very nasty face burn off mig & all electric welder`s )
You can pick up auto darkening mask`s off ebay for around £50 .
these prices are peanut`s compared to what you would pay someone to do it for you so it`s money well spent and you could always sell the welder & mask after the project has finished and get your money back !

A MiG (Metal In Gas) welder that uses flux coated rods (ergo no gas required) is simple and in-expensive enough.

You can get on that works on one-ten current, but one that uses two-twenty uses less electricity, and doesn't 'work' as hard for the same outcome.
