mark the walkway off. Dig down into the earth about 4 inches, use slender boards about 4 inches wide, and 2 inch thick line the dug out area securely with the boards, then pour the cement or what ever you are going to use in between the boards to form the walkway.

It depends on where you live and what type of walkway you are wanting to put in. For a natural stone walkway you would dig down 8 -10 inches.. put in 6-8 inches of crushed gravel, pack it or give it time to pack firmly, top that with 2 inches of sand level it and bed your rock in the sand. When you are done, fill in between the stone with sand... to help keep weeds down between the stone you can put in landscape fabric before your crush. For a good permanent cement walkway you would start the same way... boarder it with wood and put in either rebar or there is a mesh you can use now.. very fast and easy and better than rebar. pour your cement and score it every two feet or so. Brick walkway (i have personally done stone and brick) same as stone. To make a really formal walkway you can mortar stone onto your cement (don't forget to score it to match the cement) and bull-nose the edges) I have done that type too. there are good HOW TO pages on the Internet. and the handyman club has a lot of people that will give you advice as well... professionals.

Kittee the yard and garden centers like Lowe's has ready made pavers to buy for a walk way,
I bought the round ones that look like gravel and concrete but actually are made from old shredded Auto Tires, they look so real that you don't know it until you actually touch them and they will last forever, To put them down just cut your grass real short where your path is to be and place them as thick as you want them, they will kill out the grass and you can mow over them as long as your mower blades are high enough, you can also dig out the grass with a hoe or madick and put the pavers on the ground.

Well first you need to plan or "stake" out what you want your path way to look like. Then its up to you to choice what you want the walk way to look like. Cement looks modern and plain. If you use flat stones then cement will be used in holding the stones down. It depends on what you like your path to look like. Cement will be a lot easier to use then flat stones cause then you have the process of laying out the stones and then filling them in with quickcrete which would hold the stones in place. putting 2x4's down and filling them in with cement will be easier. best of luck with your new path way.

You can also go to diy.com or hgtv.com. They will have plans, articles and maybe a few videos on how to install walkways in your yard.
