Why do sales people in shoe stores put the shoe size like size 5 or 6 1/2 on the top of the shelve instead of size 8 or 9 .

It's customary that the smallest shoe size they have in stock be used as the display model. Not sure why this is the custom, just the way it is I guess. If you wear a 6 and the display is a 6.5, you know they don't have your size. This is convenient if you have little feet like my mom does but has little or no use for big-footed people like me!

It's an old legend that having small feet is 'better', specially for girls.

I see guys shoes like diesel and vans and the displays are size 6 or 8 mens, I mean how tiny is that. I'm a 16 so just imagine what that same shoe looks like in my size! Like sailing yatchs!!

Bah, big feet rule anyways, on girls too!

Because some shoes just look better smaller and those are the ones they want to display so they can sell them. I know I have big feet and heels being shown at that size aren't necessarily cute.
