How do you drain the moat around Peach's castle on Super Mario 64?

I've looked everywhere and couldn't find the way.

To drain the moat, you need to head to the basement. You can get to the basement by defeating Bowser in the dark world. You need 8 stars to reach this world.

Explore the basement until you find an underwater passageway. Swim through this and you should eventually find two pillars. A notice nearby says that 'it is decreed that one shall pound the pillars'. Do a ground pound on both pillars and the water will be drained. Now head outside into the drained moat. You'll eventually find a hole which you can fall into. This hole leads to where you activate the blue cap switch.

im not sure because i havent played that game in about three years. i think you have two do the thing where mario jumps up does a somersault then lands on the ground on his butt. there is a door under the water in the northeast corner of the castle (pretend that north is straight into the main castle doors). you cannot access this door until you have drained the moat. to drain the moat you have to go into the hall in the basement beside the level where you jump into the wall of water i beleive. there should be two pillars. you then do the afore mentioned butt pound on each of them and the moat will drain

like i said before im not 100 percent sure but i think this is how you do it.

you go into the basement and fight bowser with 8 stars. then, you should wander around the basement to find the underwater passage and you pound the two pillars blah blah blah and the moat will drain.
