Yes...My neighbours doorbell interferes with mine so everytime someone rings theirs, mine rings a different tune too.It sounds as though you may have that problem too. Some signal is interfering with it.

i did have smilar problems with my door bell few years ago, the bell would just ring itself through out the day, or late at night, there was no visitor at the door. I would run down and would found no one at the door/ or near by. it caused much problems/anguish as my house has three floors, I used to run down and it will take few minuets and I could not find any one there was no one on the street, this was so frequent that some time I run 2/3 times every day. some time it would ring when I was on my own, some time when I have visiters with me who would also noticed this. I was becoming paranoid as I was the only Asian/ colourd in this area. this went on for few months until the bell broke down and stop ringing all to gather.I changed the bateries but it did not worked, eventually when I asked some one to repair it , I found out that this brand of bells come with a code, so if anyone in nearby houses has smilier bell with the same code, the bell in my house will also ring when ever the other bell in my neighboured is pressed. I dont have this problem any more as now I have a different brand of bell ,and I keep the bell in a different place. however I was much bothered and troubled from this experience and was certain that this is happening to me as my neighbours did not like an Asian/ coloured person living among them.I bought the bell from a big change store, it operated on battries. but I dont remember the store name where I bought it or the manufactures/brand of this bell. this is my personal experience , I even contacted some one in the local council and send email to the neihbour hood watch organisor in my area. I also thought about installing a camera over the door.

No need to call and electrician...

If it is a modern kind that has a battery in the bell push (whether or not it is battery powered or on the mains), it is factory set with 4/5/6 tiny switches. These correspond with the bell component. Alter the switches in the bell push to correspond with the bell i.e. 1 up 2 and 3 down 4 up. Whatever sequence you choose make sure both switches are set the same way.

If a neighbour has a similar bell (that too will be factory set) and somebody pressing their bell will trigger yours (but a slightly different ring). Likewise when someone presses your bell push, it will trigger your neighbour's. Altering the switches will put a stop to the same frequency happening.

Hope I have explained it well enough for you to understand?

Read Muffin's reply. She has hit the nail on the head. This same thing happened to us. Just change the code digits in the bell push and the bell unit to the same setting (but different to your neighbour's). As stated they are all in default mode when sold, but are very easy to adjust.

No more problems!!!! Or spooky invisible callers!!!!

Not with the door bell - but the kettle. You are sitting
there when all of a sudden you hear it switch on. Just
like someone is going to make a cuppa. That reminds
me - I've been on here for two hours now. I need my
caffeine fix.!!!

Had it been raining at the times that it went silly. It could well be that some damp has got into it.If so just spray in some Damp Start which the guys use on their cars, this will cure it.

My son had a little toy car that he could ride in when he was little, and it got left outside. One night the horn on it wouldn't stop in the night because damp had got into it.

Our doorbell is wireless and almost every time someone rings it, it switches of the television. It's great! It really annoys the kids, but as it is usually their friends at the door, it makes them get up and answer it!

I've got wireless speakers and I know when my neighbors are having a visitor. I wonder if they ever get my HBO on the door bell.

If you have a remote door bell then a neighbour might have the same type and you're getting their rings on your bell.. lol
