Best Gas Mileage Motorcycles

2016-11-16 13:17:12 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Motorcycles I've had:

1978 Honda XL350: 65 mpg
1986 Honda Nighthawk 450: 55 mpg
198? Kawasaki Police Special (1000): 35 mpg
1985 Yamaha Virago 700: 45 mpg

Note the exceptionally bad mileage for the police motorcycle! And the tank was a little over 2 gallons! One of the reasons I got rid of mine. (The other reasons were: it wore out a pair of tires and a chain in only 5000 miles).

Only very small motorcycles, like 250 cc and under get anywhere near 50 mpg on the highway. At least that's my experience. My 450 Honda only got about 35-40 mpg on the highway, depending on how fast I was going, and my 1140cc Harley V-rod only gets about 33-35 mpg at 70mph average speed. If I ride at very high speeds, I've actually gone through 3.8 gallons in 78 miles, which is like 20mpg. So if you want a motorcycle cuz you like motorcycles, fine. If you want to save gas, make sure you really want to give up your comfort. There are cars out there that get good mileage like bikes at normal highway speeds and you don't have to worry about getting wet, getting cold, getting hot, or not carrying everything you need. Personally, I prefer the bike no matter what the weather, except in the winter of course, but that's me.

I have an H-D FXDWG with the TC-88. I get about 40-42 MPG city driving, and little over 45 on road (Highway) runs. I don't get good MPG if I dog it. Plus my little girl ain't stock. I have an S & S carb and SE II pipes. I would probably see a two to three MPG increase with a stock setup in each case. In wet weather (It happens a bit down here.) I get better MPG also. Not much, but you notice it. I always wondered about water injection for a bike, but where do you put the water tank! Ride safe. Ciao!

I ride a Suzuki GS500F, and it gets around 50 to 60 mpg. My previous bike, an old Honda CX500 (same engine size but way out of tune) seemed to get around 40 to 50. I've heard some 250s reportedly get as high as the 70s, while some of the really big ones can get as low as the 30s.

My 450 Honda got 60-70 on the highway, my 800 Honda got about 46, my 1200 BMW gets about 38. I'm told the 1800 Gold Wings get only about 32-36.

RE:
what kind of gas mileage do motorcycles get?

I have averaged 50MPG on all my Japanese cycles. 360-500cc twins and 650-750cc inline 4s. The Harley, at 1450cc, was getting about 45 during break-in. I haven't checked it recently, but it seems to be close to the others. Feels a little strange to have a bigger engine with close to the same mileage.

As said earlier, it all depends on engine size, speed you ride and traffic. My 1600 Roadstar averages 40, been as low as 35 and as high as 50.
