WAIT! I'm not looking for huge specifics such as "you need to go here for this much years and then do this and do this" but just the basics of what's need to be done and which classes must be taken care of. :< I'm looking for things like "you need this much years of biology/chemistry/etc." Just in general I mean :) Just curious and looking into my career choices. Recommendations of where to volenteer over summer helps too! Thanks!

Most science majors cover all of the above. Get good grades in everything, you have to have at least a 3.0 for most medical schools.

MCATs - Medical school SATs
Check with individual schools to see what scores are required for admittance.

Any type of volunteer work will make you seem more well rounded. It doesn't have to be in a medical capacity, but it would help because you would see things first hand.

High School: Take all of the college prep courses to prepare you for pre medin collega. Special emphasis should be on 4 years of science and English. The college enterance test will deal this the matters almost exclusively. Get the best grade you possibly can.

College: Take the Pre-med cirriculum, with emphasis on getting a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or Biochemistry. Again try your best to get the highest grades you can. Whether you get into med school, or not is heavily dependent on your GPA average and how well you fo on the Medical College Admissions Test [MCAT].

Medical School- 4 years If you are successful, you will have an M.D. degree.

1 Yr. internship- After which, if you decide to go into family practice, you can after being certified.

If you want to be a specialist , look forward to a 3-5 year residency at a hospital. Add another couple of moths to study for your board certification test. If sucessful, you are a board certified specialist.
