He has been a heel more so than a face his entire career, anyone that did not get to see him at the beginning of his career starting Survivor Series 90 have missed out on a lot. The person they have him as today is nothing compared to what he used to be.

Several times. He started out as a heel from his debut in 1990 until early 1992 when he turned as a result of his feud with Jake Roberts. He turned heel again in 1998 when he began feuding with Steve Austin over the world title and subsequently re-united with Paul Bearer and stayed heel until 1999 when he took time off due to injury and returned as a face in 2000. He'd turn heel again at the end of 2001 with the whole "making Jim Ross join the kiss-my-*** club" deal (oh joy) before turning face again in 2002 for... some reason. Something to do with the Un-Americans I think, but I forget. And face he's stayed ever since.
**Edit* And to the person who said nobody has never been a heel, I give you Tito Santana, Kerry Von Erich and famously Ricky Steamboat.

The truth of the matter is that there is not one wrestler who has NOT at some point been heel in their career. Even Chumpstain Hogan was a heel a few times. The Rock, Austin, Micheals, the list goes on and on. Lashley hasn't yet but he just started not to long ago. Give him time.
