it can change ur mood by the bpm(beats per minute) bass and tempo, the bpm increase ur heart rate the higher they r, the bass pulses ur brain and creates more brain waves and the tempo sets the real mood for the song if its slow or fast, usualy easy listening music is rele slow and calm lyrics while rock and metal are rele fast and rap is just rele crap its the same words said over n over w high bass and low treble to promote violence. color has the same affect on ppl , if u paint ur room a dark color it tends to b more depressing than a lighter color

You asked for different theories, so here's the ideas of a Christian college student with a music minor:
I believe that we are all created in God's image. He is creative and thus we are creative and enjoy creativity. He is beautiful, thuse, we enjoy beauty. Music is one aspect of beauty, but sometimes it can be twisted. I haven't thought this out very much, but that's what comes to mind.
It is amazing how music is so powerful. It's amazing.

Music has its roots in early ritual behavior and has an effect upon some of the deepest structures in the brain, producing an almost meditative sense.

I think it all goes back to pre-language tribal communication. We had "music" in some form for aeons before we had the spoken word, and that is embedded deep in our make-up. Understanding and responding properly to this "music" had a very high survival value, so evolution made us highly responsive.

It's hard to explain, music is something magical like being in a trance, it takes us to different dimensions, it makes us float in air and fall in love. It makes us happy almost like being in an euphoria state. It alters our subconscious level and makes us to forget about the problems and later we realized we been hypnotized by such beautiful melodies.

I've heard someone say because it's a tool of the devil ...LOL!(Not my belief btw)
Not real sure why, but it's powerful to me because certain notes and chords or certain things being said in songs give me chills or just strike me the right way.

music engages both sides of the brain at once, unlike most things. reading uses one side, drawing the other. music is both a function of art and math. music draws on both sides and brings them together making it seem more intense than things that only engage one.
one of the nice things about music? it's repetitive, which our brains are hardwired to enjoy, so listening to it actually causes physical neurochemical pleasure!
