Is American culture excessively violent?

all the guns and knives, death and explosions in just films alone..

or am I being oversensetive?

As a culture, we are not excessively violent. We are known for helping others, standing strong in the face of adversity, pursuing and protecting personal freedoms, tolerance and acceptance, and trying to protect the "American Dream" that so many people have. We do as Americans, however, tend to have an excessively high interest in entertainment of a violent nature and have become so numb to violence as a result of this, that it would seem that we accept and condone violence, when in reality, actual violence that we are witness to is quite shocking to the vast majority of us. Some might disagree with me, but this has been my personal experience.

You're being oversensitive. Violence is part of human life, always has been. I don't see humans getting rid of it any time soon either, as we're tribal creatures that love to fight--just like most other primates.

Also, why on earth would you believe everything you see in movies? Most of the people here are right, we have no issue with the fake stuff in movies, but in reality we don't like it any more than you do.

Dig the baddest Crypt you can find out of prison, fly him to Darfur or Gaza, have him tell the good folks there about his thugish violent life then watch him get embarrassed whn they think it's a standup act.

Well although {AMERICA}- stands for freedom & I feel we have many more rights & freedoms!! I also think that it's many in this country thatwould have some to think that we as a country should be more like china or the supposedly old russia !?! U.S.A's one reason being it does'nt promote forms of slvery anylonger.
