It's not the cylinder, it's either your starter or you haven't turned the steering wheel to quite the right place. Just try adjusting the steering wheel as you GENTLY attempt to turn the key.

First thing to try is moving the steering wheel to see if the steering is locked. There is a mechanism that 'locks' the steering wheel when there is no key in the ignition. If the mechanism 'locks' with out the key in it, it will prevent the key from turning.
Next, if it is an automatic trans make sure it is in Park or Neutral.
Good luck!

I'm sure you've made sure that your front wheels aren't turned left or right so far that there's a lot of tension on the steering wheel lock. When you turn the key you also have to turn the steering wheel with the other hand to release any tension in the steering wheel. Sometimes it takes a lot of force to do that.

I know this sounds strange, but, did you try turning the steering wheel just a little? My old car got tempermental and if the steering wheel wasn't in the position IT liked, the key wouldn't turn. Good luck.

YOUR KEY MAY BE WORN DOWN......
OR YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED,,,
CHECK SEE IF KEY TEETH ARE WORN....
TRY YOUR SPARE KEY....IF THAT DON'T WORK THEN
TWIST THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE SURE ITS LOCKED AND THEN TRY...
ALSO MAKE SURE CAR TRANSMISSION IS IN PARK POSITION.
