Nintendo ds wifi help!!?

I bought a wifi max that is supposed to connect the ds to the internet wirelessly. they will connect but then it says cannot locate ip address and also whenever i plug it into the computer, after a while it smells like it is burning.
If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Should have bought a better wifi connector, like this one
