You may readily answer both but in today,s world one is simply confused. The churches teaches you to do good things which only come from a healthy mind. Outside the churches, politicians, the entertaiment world, business colleagues, friends and so many people sort of play down your honesty, good naturedness and put more emphasis on how you look. You may be hurt inside, nobody seem to care in as much you cover that with a veneer of good dressing. Why so much emphasis on outward looks than the inner person today?

It's harder to have a healthy mind without a healthy body (but nobody should stop there)...
It's easier to advise people on how to look, eat, or exercise than it is to tell them what and how to think.
More politically correct, too.
Your question goes deeper, though. I think it has more to do with our present culture than any absolute right or wrong. Today, it is about looks, etc., because people who don't know you, treat you better based on the only thing they see. It's harder to really know anyone these days, so we learn to survive by exploiting the superficial.
Follow your heart, and as long as you're healthy and practice good hygiene, concentrate on the inner life. It will eventually show to the right people. You have what it takes.

The mind leads the body. It has the power to lead one into oblivion, if not nurtured to keep healthy. That said, an unhealthy body will drag down the mind with it. But all along, it is the mind making the calls.

Your last queery leads to: We live in a materialistic world, getting ever more so as all are DAZZLED by more and more. This results is a shallow outlook that is frought with short-sitedness. The good news: "This world is passing away"...& SOON!

friends downplay honesty and good naturedness??

they dont appreciate you and stay loyal to you because of good traits?

Ok i see where you are coming from... being a nice guy is not valued in the short term people have fun with jerks... girls go for bad boys and jerks and guy also sometimes admire rude brave and unchecked behavior.

tv and movies dont help either

many people admire a balance in other peoples lives or take that opposing view and dislike people who have the mental side of their lives under control.

many of us take comfort in the idea that other people are a little messed up too. Or we think that we are the only ones that are messed up and then focus solely on appearances and what we appear to have under control.

our DNA is designed to see certain traits in physical appearance. luckily for me- it seems like this focus on outward looks is stronger in the male population than female ..though we all have this problem. most actually dont judge others solely on looks but some use it as one of their basic criteria for evaluating peers.

MIIINNND.
Through a healthy mind you can acheive a healthy body. If you look great but your messed up on the inside it has more of an effect on your life. Your mind is what determines how you view your life

I personally value my mind over my body. I also find that if I have a healthy mind, my body is much better off.
