we just got a new processor and the wiring wasn't long enough, so we spliced the wiring to extend it.. the question is if the fan is spose to be turned on right away when the computer's turned on or is it spose to take a little while before the fan turns on?

Hi, If you had to extend the wires, you might have mistakenly hooked them up yo the front panel header. In which case it will either come on while you close the case, or possible only if you hit the reset button, but still only momentarily. DO NOT hit the reset button. Don't rewire any internal device again. There is a small white 3 pin connection near every motherboards Processor. Some even have 2 and 3 on them. The ones that are too far away are for case fans.

The fan should turn on immediately.

ANY motherboard that supports that processor will have a CPU fan power connector within a few inches of the actual CPU socket. You just need to look closer at the board to find it.

you're a concepts extra valuable off to purchase a sparkling heatsink & fan: They positioned on & shrink in performance over the years, and that isn't any longer properly worth taking the prospect: purchase a retail processor & it will comprise a heatsink & fan; if no longer, they're so affordable as to make no longer procuring one a pretend economic gadget.

You should hear the fan the very moment the pc is turned on. if you don't hear the fan, then it means someting is wrong with the fan.
