Why does Slipknot where masks????

Because they want to be able to live relatively normal lives whilst offstage.

It's a gimmick, I like Slipknot but thinks it's a product of living in Iowa all those years. Besides it doesn't help avoid fans because thanks to Stone Sour everyone knows what Corey Taylor and Jim Root look like now anyway.

That and they have two drummers... I dont particularly like them to much, but some songs beat the sh*t out of lots of songs that popular radio stations play. Lordi and Gwar also wear masks though.

Probably because they would like to go to the grocery store and walk around in public without getting asked for autographs every 5 minites

It gives them a sense of originality. No other band did that before then really.
It gives people something to talk about, something to remember them by.
Even if their music wasn't great, the fact one never sees their faces means there is an air of mysteriousness around them, which creates attention, increases sales, and gets more money.
Or they were bored and wanted something to do. :D
But seriously, didn't it interest you? clearly, as you posted about it here. It raises awareness of them because they've done something different. As well as the fact that they have 9 people in the band.

I'm not exactly sure, but maybe they want to still be able to go grocery shopping without being mobbed.

I think it is because they want anonymity. They aren't being judged by how they look, but more on the music that they create.
They are an awesome band!

I heard they have like a contract or somthing saying thay have to wear it. If you have ever heard them talk with them on it's hard to hear what they are saying.
