On my desktop screen, my " left click" won't work when it comes to opening games, I have to right click, then make a choice from the window that opens up. On the internet, when I click on items, instead of underlining, or "brightening" the item, as usual, a dotted line outline shows up instead. I'.ve gone into the mouse program, and put the selections back to "default" in case I "mis-clicked", and caused the problem accidently, but that didn't work. Help!! (It's a Hewlett-Packard mouse, and has always worked fine, till now. And the rechargeable batteries are fully charged, and new- approx. 2 mths. old) Thanks!

Borrow another mouse.
If the problem persists then it is the computer's fault.
If not; then it is the mouse that is broken.
OR
Try uninstalling the mouse from the device manager, reboot and get windows to detect it again. (re-install the mouse driver)

try do a system restore
click - start - all programs - accessories - system tools - system restore
a window will pop up with a calender - click on a date that your mouse was working properly (might have to go back a few weeks - or month - then click - next (bottom right corner of window) - follow the prompts
once that's all done - the computer will restart -
once it's restarted and back to the desktop - a window should appear saying something like - system restore was successful - click OK
'n you're done
hopefully that will restore your mouse settings

probably you have some bad contact, try to open the cover and spray with contact cleaner the microswitch under the left clicker, and the battery contacts
