I realize the chances of impeachment occurring are extraordinarily slim, but the thought of Cheney ever being president is terrifying. :-P

Impeachment is only the first process for removing a President from office, Bill Clinton was impeached but he was not convicted so he was able to remain president.

So for Cheney to become president George W. Bush would have to be impeached and then convicted for a crime.

When a President is impeached, that doesn't mean they are removed from office. Impeachment is basically the act of accusing the President of a crime, not actually removing him from office. Clinton was impeached, but remained President.

today, March 25, 2007 The House is already discussing movement toward impeachment I am guessing that GWB and DC do not give a rat's a.. they have already taken everything they can get from the US The US is totally bankrupt

Not only will GWB be impeached but also DC as well Why do you think they are moving Halliburton to Dubai and GWB has bought 100,000 acres in Paraguay Paraguay has allowed them immunity from the International Court of Justice

I'm pretty sure Cheney would step in until the next presidential election. They might just start the election early though and just have Cheney as a stand in.

Yup, that's the way it works....unless something happened to Cheney, and then the next in line would take over, and at this point I can't remember if it's the Senate Majority Leader or the Speaker of the House....

And think even further...Cheney then can select without the vote of the people a V.P. so any front runner for the Republican nomination could make a serious step forward...talk about air time with cost!

However it's highly unlikely anything will come from the impeachment talk and if something did the Demo's would go after both them to get their Queen into the power spot.

Yes. Once the President is removed from office for any reason, the Vice President would become president.

Which is exactly why we need to walk delicately around the idea of impeachment.

It would almost seem that impeaching Bush right now is exactly what Cheney and Rove want, thus thrusting the most evil man in the world right into the oval office to finish off his insane vision of world wide corporate fascism.

Who do you think is running this country right now? You really don't think the MORON Bush is making any real decisions do you?Cheney and Bush both should be impeached ,but both houses don't have enough votes to impeach one of them let alone both of them.Too bad, this country would be a whole lot better off.

That is correct. If the President is removed from office for any reason, the Vice-President takes over as President.
