English help - Quasi-agreements?

i know a quasi-agreement is when you say "yes but..." or something to suggest that you can see another point but then contradict it... but is "yeah well.." one?


also, has anyone studied speech in english? what is meant by threatening/protecting face? Is it self-image? if so, how do you write about it? to you write "(name)'s face" or just "threatens face" =s

It sounds to me like the phrase "yeah well" could be introducing a quasi-agreement. On the other matter English would use the terms "saving face" or "losing face".
