I like motion activated toys like gorillas that clap chimes. If someone does break in while you are sleeping you will wake up. Connect some webcams to your computer so you got evidence if there is a break in. Make good friends with the neighbors so they will watch the place. If your windows are secure get (2) spring-type deadbolt locks. The spring type make it impossible for them to pick the lock and hold it while trying to pick the second one. I use CamWiz. It can run up to 4 USB web cameras and you can FTP video and receive email alerts. Uses time Slide technology to motion sense movement. Fully adjustable and adapts to your cameras software. You can extend the cameras up to 20 feet. It will also run CCTV and most video adapter cards.
To use 4 cameras you will have to have a P4 3Ghz. 800fbs or higher, 2Gb. ram. I tried a smaller P4 1.2Ghz. 400fbs and 1Gb. ram and it wouldn't run 4 cameras.
There are transparent bars and limited functions with the free version. I bought the license and its worth the $29.95.

Spend $10 and get a few stickers for your windows saying that you have a security system. You don't need to actually get one, they just need to think it's there...

Buy a gun your comfortable with, an alarm system from Slomin Shield, barb wire around your gate outside(if any), bar up your windows, and get a dog and feed it gun powder.
