I see many benefits of internet elections:
1. Hugely cost effective.
2. Fast in conducting and response.
3. Widespread participation (Indians throughout the nation and word can take part)
4. Great improvement in democracy
India being a great democracy and software/IT powerhouse:
Will internet elections be good for India?
If yes when can India have her first internet election?

If electronic machines can be used then why not internet.
Usage of computer/internet is quite easy and like mobile, TV we need not to learn it a lot, and at least to just vote.
Easy access of electoral power means rapid response by the entire SYSTEM/nation.
This means less bureaucracy, and less politicians which means real power to the people, and rapid development.
There is no doubt it is best method and easy to implement and use.
The question is do we know?
And if yes then are we motivated to demand it?

Two questions -
1. Do you think that voting on the internet is foolproof?
2. What percentage of Indians have actually seen a computer, let alone going online?
Here are a few facts about the Estonian population:
The population of Estonia in 2003 numbered approximately 1.4 million, mainly Estonians (68%) and around 25% Russians. Other minorities are Bylarussians, Ukrainians and others. Population density is an average of 30 people to the square kilometer compared with an average in the EU of 116 per square kilometer.
As you have already noticed the population of Estonia is roughly that of an average Lok Sabha constituency. To carry out such an exercise in India would be humungous. Isn't there enough fraud in the elections already?
We as Indians should not forget that the turnout has beem dwindling in the recent elections and the urban areas (that have access to high speed internet) has fared poorly though they are the primary beneficiaries of the Government's policies. The farmer who waits year after year with the hope that the Government would do something to improve his plight is the one who makes that journey to the polling booth and makes his vote count.
Nevertheless, I am not junking your idea altogether. It could be possible sometime way down the lane, maybe 35 years or 50 years but it is very hard to say if such an idea will materialise.

It is only private schools and college are giving Computer Courses and the pupil are taught regarding the utility of Computer and Inrternet. Villages and government schools are not coverred. It is only on paper and in practice though PCs are there, skilled computer operators not available. So, many do not know what is Internet. The question of conduction Internet Collections will not arise in near future. If at all arises, it may arounf 2020 / Swarnandha Pradesh and India one among Super Powers. Hope so.

India plays an important role in Information Technology. Indians are clever enough to manipulate election results if they are allowed to vote on Internet.

Great. Firstly, thanks for letting me know, Estonia had this thing.
Second of all, I dont think it will prove to be much of a success in our country.
Local elections online could be given a shot though. But I am still not able to imagine the reliability of such a thing in a place like India.
Good thought!!

If kids can hack into the Pentagon's computer system they can hack into a nation's voting system. Do you want your elections at the mercy of hackers be they kids or goverments wanting to destabilize India? Until it is proven hacker-proof I'd say it is dangerous.
