It was my fathers computer and he has passed away. I don't know what he had or how to do it,but a computer shop said it would take about an hour and $35.00. But also that I would have to take the tower in too. Can't I fix this problem at home for free?

Yes, the problem can be fixed rather easily on your own.

You can either go to the computer manufacturers website and download the drivers for your particular model. Or if you can find out what kind of video card it is, you can just download the drivers from the video cards website.

The people who told you it would take an hour an $35 bucks are just trying to fleece you for some money. Any honest and good computer repair shop would either tell you how to do it or do it for you for cheaper than that.

It literally takes 10 minutes tops. That is, when you know what you are doing.
