I'm not sure, i was wondering that too, because white people acting black are annoying! Maybe because they are spoiled little brats that get what they want and they see a person(african americans) with a tough life that was born in the ghetto, they have some opposites attract sort of thing.(?) Either way its annoying and this generation sucks! At my high school 8 out of 10 people in general are annoying attention grabbing people! So i dont get why white people(rich ones) act like losers, sorry.PS great question!

It's a phase, kids have phases of all types. In the 50s it was cutting the belt loops from the pants, in the 60s it was the Beatnik thing, in the 70s it was roller skates, in the 80s when I was a teen it was the big hair and Madonna clothes, etc etc. Nowadays, hip-hop and rap culture has entered the mainstream media, and lots of kids think it's cool, regardless of their race. Hell, I've seen Asians who act and speak ghetto.
I they eventually grow out of it, 'cause it's low-brow and won't become them if they try landing a corporate career. Not everyone is corporate bound, but for those who are, I hope they grow out of the hippity hoppity phase for their sake.

I think young people tend to associate with "outsider" cultures. It's an inherent part of adolescence to feel persecuted, unique, etc. Outsider or "other" culture, as some sociologists call it, provides a controlled sense of danger and affirmation of one's sense of herself as persecuted, unique, powerful against restriction, etc.
White teens have long had strong affinities with aspects of African-American culture. In the 1920s, Harvard boys and their girlfriends staged their rebellion to jazz records. In the 1950s, jazz, blues, and doowop fused with other forms of American folk music to make rock and roll. Of course, rock has become largely "white" in the intervening years, and pop has grown increasingly slick and calculating in its portrayal. It makes sense that teens would identify with the sense of authenticity and "otherness" of hiphop in the way that they once identified with rock or blues or jazz.
But, generally speaking, I'm going to be freaking depressed if my kids are hiphop fans. It's a great genre of music, although far from my favorite. I just don't care for the idea of kids treating cultural groups so casually. I'd argue that, although a huge percentage of hiphop dollars come from white fans, it's on some level exploitive for middle class wasps to appropriate culture in that way. Plus, do-rags make white kids look like dirty cu-tips.

Since when do blacks claim the thug life as their own, wearing it like a badge of honor or somthing. That life style has kept many blacks from succeeding in life, and yet the blame still falls on white people.

When I was growing up in the suburbs of South Florida, me and all my friends were into grunge and that kinda thing
Most white people I hang out with now who are well off 20 year olds in college usually are pretty free about their anti-gangsta feelings....which they associate with black ppl...so therefore they talk bad about black ppl....even if they listen to music by black ppl
wuddya gunna do, eh?

they are just searching for an identity and place in life. they worship the bad guys, gangstas and thugs, the way women are attracted to the bad boys. Some call them wiggers and posers, some hate them and some like them. They also want to fight against convention and shock the old folks.

Hip-hop and the urban image is the new 'rock-n-roll'. It's what's hot and in fashion right now. Many parents were alarmed and upset when their children, in the 1950's, were into rock, leather jackets, and doo-wop music. Hip-hop is a uniquely American style and I think it helps race relations, so I see no problem with it.

They have no identity of their own. Black people are so damn cool that everyone wants to do what we do. We are consumate performers in any arena and I just don't mean an atheltic arena. There isn't anything we can't do. Once others took notice and found out they couldn't do it better, they want to copy it.

Ask Vanilla Ice.
I suppose it's because they like that particular culture. What's wrong with that?
