I have used Nestle Good Start with my previous 2 sons and I am now expecting my 3rd child in June. I would love to continue with the Good Start but, it's become so expensive! I'd love to try the generic brands (namely either Walmart's or Superstore's.) I love that Good Start has the "broken down whey proteins"... .... .. do you think that a generic brand may have the same ingredients? I notice that Walmart in the US has a formula called, "Parent's Choice Gentle" that comes pretty close to Good Start (or actually, "Enfamil Gentlease"... but, it's not offered in Canada!! I'd really like to find a generic (and actually less expensive) version of Nestle Good Start.

Thanks in advance for any information.

I am not sure if there are any Target stores there in your area. But Target is a bit more upscale in comparison to Wal-Mart brands. Target carries baby formula in their store brand. It's called Target Milk-based formula and it specifies ages (0-6 months, 0-12 months, or starting after 9 months). I used the 0-6 when my daughter was smaller and then moved onto the 0-12 months and she is perfectly healthy and did really well on it. In fact one day I accidently bought the soy based milk instead of the other and she actually liked it a lot better and her stomach was less gassy and she spit up less and had regular poos more often. So that really worked for me. I would suggest Target brand and it's not too high about $11.99 for a big box and we went through about two boxes a week until she was weaned onto regular cow milk. Its much cheaper and it has the same ingredients as Good Start. Parents Choice is lower quality and you just can't be sure that it is good especially being so cheap like that. I never used it but I bought the Parent's Choice brand diapers a few times and they were really aweful and leaked all the time. Sometimes its best to stick with Huggies instead if you know it works like its supposed to even for a little more. Try Target brand, its great.

Wal Mart carries a brand called "Parent's Choice". It comes in many varieties and states on the can "compare to (names of the brand name product)" I buy the one that has the same ingredients as Enfamil Lipil and it costs less than half the name brand one. My pediatrician said there's no difference.

I used the Good Start for my older son as well. For my 1 year old we switched to Costco's Kirkland brand on my doctors recommendation and he loves it. Nestle also has a cheaper formula called Good Start Essentials but I never tried it because it's hard to find. Good luck.

If it is comparable to the Good Start, then it should be just fine with the baby. Plus as you mentioned she is older now. I used Prosobee from WIC with my babies, and they ate more than WIC gave us. When I ran out, I would buy the Parent's Choice brand from Wal-Mart that said compare to Prosobee and it worked just fine. My babies were fine with it and liked it just as well. Every baby is different. I say try it and see how the baby does now. She may be fine.

dont go generic

we tried generic (walmart parents choice) at first cause it has the same ingredints and same amount of everything but we found the cut and grain was coarser and therefore made our daughter badly constipated
