Hi Guy!
Well, I don't believe that giving "Negros" reparations will solve anything but just show how so many of us unfortunately don't know what to do with money and opportunity for a nation to grow. I do believe that in order for anyone on this earth to get over any type of slavery will just be to treat each other as humans, rather than shades of colours. I mean as a child i remember using the entire box of crayons even though i didn't like all of them... i gave them all a fare chance. Why can't we do the same thing. So to answer your questions? no just make a decree to treat everyone the same, fairly!! and you won't have all of these ridiculous laws, etc. NO REPARATIONS. BESIDES MONEY WILL NEVER JUSTIFY OR MAKE ME FEEL ANY BETTER, MY COLOUR STILL SAYS THE SAME AND IN THE MINDS OF PEOPLE EVERYWHERE I'M STILL NOT HUMAN.

Reparations should be paid and all of the above comments are tinged with lack of empathy and common sense. All other groups who have been done horribly wrong by our government have been given reparations of some sort, then ANY reason not to give Blacks the same is racist, wrong and irresponsible. If you have been done wrong, would you settle for no apology or compensation? If you say yes, then you are a liar. Just because America as a whole was irresponsible by not paying reparations after slavery was eliminated, is not the fault of Black America and nor should they have to just "get over it". Actually, I am well sure that they won't and we'll never gain any racial harmony until this issue has been dealt with properly.

I am a Quaker. During the era of slavery in America, the Underground Railroad was run by Quakers at considerable risk to themselves and their property. Should I then be awarded money for the expenses my predecessors incurred? No, but it does add an interesting angle to the idea of reparation for slavery in America.

I agree with you. For one thing, I have never owned slaves, the African Americans today haven't been slaves, and while I don't think that that part of history should be forgotten or skimmed over by any means I don't feel that I personally owe them anything. African-Americans have gotten some financial benefits based on their skincolor already to a certain extent. Take the area of education for example: scholarships specifically for African Americans (you don't see white scholarships do you?), quotas at colleges and universities, etc.

sometimes the only reason that a person or persons cant help themselves is because they cant get any help with the problem that other people created and then left laying in the middle of the floor like a big steaming pile of doo. if we had time to talk i got a lot of ideas and opinions of what you are speaking about . it really aint a big deal if you think about thinking it all the way through even if it takes forever .

is this a question or a statement? I personally don't agree with reparations for individual persons. If there were such a thing as reparations, it should be given to benefit those organizations which are dedicated to preserving civil rights for all such as the NAACP or the Urban league...and the money in turn used to educate people and train them to be able to help themselves...and take pride in themselves.

Why must governments and Nations apologise for what their forefathers did hundreds of years ago..?
It only stirs up mistrust and hatred.
Do I have to apologise to the French because an old King invaded France to take possesion..?
.....I don't think so..!
We all learn from history, lets keep it that way and stay educated of our past. We just don't have to say sorry for it..!
How about the Italians (Romans). Where's my apology for turning my people into slaves..?

Also, the UN estimates there are still over 8 million child slaves in the world TODAY, many of them in Africa.
I would have thought that was a more logical target.

your exactly right, if black people deserve reparations for slavery, then we owe japan reparations for the bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, generations were wiped out then too. but the people in Japan today were not targeted and the U.S. government today is not responsible for that.
The only thing anyone owes anybody is respect.

You said it all, man. I am sorry for the wrongs of the past, but I did not commit them. I am ashamed what the white man did, but I am not ashamed of how I behave regarding races. I know some older black people but none of them ever were slaves. They are just good down to earth people.
