The basic problem is that NO ONE, or almost no one, really wants to learn about slavery, about all of slavery. We pick and choose what parts of slavery we want to study and emphasize, but we completely ignore those parts that we don't want do learn about, read about or write about. We all have tunnel vision when it comes to slavery, all of us, black and white alike. We don't want to know, because we have our beliefs and we don't want the facts to get in the way of our beliefs. No one single symbolic wall or item will ever tell the story. There are hundreds of thousands of stories, each one different and unique, and we need to know them all. We need to read. We need to feel. And we need to know. A wall will most likely just put a bandage on a wound that will never heal.
