I formatted the c drive and reinstalled xp on my dell inspiron e1505 notebook, and now whenever I try to turn off my computer, the only options are turn off, restart, and a faded out standby which I can't click. Any ideas for solutions would be appreciated.

My best guess is you haven't turned the hibernate option on in Windows Options. You have to first allow it, since it uses up a fair amount of space. Then you will have the option (probably after a reboot).

Good luck with it...this should be a fast/easy fix...hope the rest of the reformat goes smoothly...they're always such a pain!

Thought I'd spell out exactly how to do it in case you weren't sure...Start button -> Control Panel -> Power Options (if it isn't showing click Power & Maintenence and it will be there on lower part of options -> Hibernate tab -> check Enable hibernate support box -> Apply/OK -> reboot

you might have to hold shift at the power off option- and the standby button changes to hibernate?
