I am currently breast feeding my 6 mo old. But it seems like it is not sufficing him. I juz started him on solids. Also, I am returning to work place, I have worked from home until now, but not anymore, so I am planning to switch my baby to other sources of milk. I m presently in India and my good old neighbor suggested me to start him on buffalo milk. But I want to know if it is ok for the baby, a lil 6mo old. Any input in appreciated.

well i don't know about buffalo milk and how easy it would be digested....if u need a natural source of milk for a babe that's to young for cows milk, goats milk is very easily digestible and is more similar to human milk then cows milk (i had to use it for my 4 month old a few times, because i was in the hospital. he liked it, and no tummy aches and gas : ) )

i suggest you buy a breast pump, and pump a couple times at work during breaks that way at least you have some breast milk for him during the day you could even mix it half and half with thee other milk of your choice

...I'm glad to see someone looking into something natural as a supplement instead of just using formula..its like feeding your child a twinkie and a flinstone vitamin, meets all the caloric and vitamin needs but its nothing more then junk food

good luck

S,

I suppose that a 6 mo. old who has been introduced to solid food should be okay with buffalo milk. You do mean water buffalo, right? Regardless, it's a bovine, so it should be ok. You're going back to work, so obviously you won't be there to feed...unless you pump and store for later use.

I guess other people aren't reading your question fully, suggesting that it's 'nasty.' I think it's nastier to judge folks according to what they eat...all food is sacred.

There's plently of cows there in India. Feed it formula. It can't drink buffalo milk or cow milk until 1 year old. Breast milk should feed it just fine.

The composition of buffalo's milk appears to be very different from that of human milk. I would recommend that you continue to breastfeed when you are not at work, and supplement with formula when you are at work.

Composition of human milk (which varies according to *your* baby's needs): http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/milk/bmilk-composition.html

never heard of that, but it sounds nasty. keep up with the breastmilk and solids. u can work and breastfeed.

if breastfeeding becomes overwhelming move on to formula but not buffalo or even cow milk.

Honestly I have never heard of that so I don't know if that is good or not. Ask a doctor. Good luck and sorry I couldn't be of more help.
