i've tried reinstalling it and it still shuts down while my computer is on any tips?

It may be your security shutting it down or some of the features in XP service pack 2, more security. If your getting an error message write it down and search windows website for possible answers.
Also be sure your computer has enough memory and room for XP, its a large file.
There are several forums around that might help also, such as Software Tips and Tricks .com Lots of questions and troubleshooting tips about XP there. Just keep trying, you will find the problem

You might have a bad system file. If that is the case, go to a command prompt and type :
SFC /scannow.
It could also be faulty hardware such as a RAM module. In which case, you will need to take it to a repair shop.
