I just moved 2500 from home and because of some issues I have and the adjustments I am making. I need to get a good counsellor or therapist that can administer medicine. What are
some key things I need to look for in a therapist? I am a female should I get a male or female? Are there any websites I can go on to seek what I am looking for? what has been your experience with the question I just asked.

I have seen 4-5 therapists in my lifetime. I definitely prefer females. In my experience, they are just better at what they do. Women are more emotional beings compared to men and it makes sense they make better therapists.

First of all, not all therapists can prescribe medication. So, you'll want to make sure that your therapist can prescribe the meds or has someone on staff who can. Also, you'll want an experienced therapist, particularly one that is experienced with the same issues you are seeing them for. You'll want to know what kind of therapy they practice. You'll want a therapist that isn't so busy with other clients that she'll have a hard time fitting you in.

You can also check the licensing of a potential therapist, usually online. Google the name of your state and add the words "department licensing psychologist". You may have to look for a while but you should find it. If the therapist has been reprimanded for illegal or unethical behavior, it should list this here as well.

In my experience, therapy can be very beneficial. However, you need a good therapist. In this day and age, how much money you have will decide how good of treatment you get. If you get state medical insurance, it's tough getting adequate treatment. Good luck!

I think webmd.com has counselor profiles and stuff there.
As for what gender you should be looking for, think about yourself for a second. Would you be comfortable talking to a male or female about your problems? Would you be embarrassed to say what you feel infront of either one of them? Also, age is also a factor. Personally I would find it very hard to have a young male counselor, because I'm afraid I might find them attractive! ^^'
