Senator Chuck Hagel talk about REAL conservatism & how it should work in US politics & not the theocratic/neoconic BS that Bush shovels out every week?

Do today's "conservatives" even realize that Bush & his Evangelical followers hi-jacked the Republican party & mutated it into some sort of Neoconic-Theocracy that would make the founder of the modern day conservative movement: Barry Goldwater, spin in his grave?

So cons, if believe in the true conservatism (like Chuck Hagel) then please continue calling yourselves conservatives but if you don't agree w/ Chuck then get a NEW NAME for yourselves because you aren't real conservatives. You're a Bush-sevative & that has very little to do w/ being a true conservative like Sen. Hegal (who has 2 purple hearts).

"Well, I've spent quite a number of years carrying the flag of the 'Old Conservatism.' And I can say with conviction that the religious issues of these groups have little or nothing to do with conservative or liberal politics. The uncompromising position of these groups is a divisive element that could tear apart the very spirit of our representative system, if they gain sufficient strength."
- Barry Goldwater

I like how some cons say today's Dems are nothing like yesterdays, but then give no example. If they are trying to say today's Dems are nothing like the southern socially conservative Dixiecrats, then I agree 100%. If they are saying we are nothing like FDR, Truman, JFK, and LBJ, they are 100% wrong. These guys were plenty economically liberal, especially FDR with his 90% tax rates for the ultra wealthy.

Some cons try to make the distinction on foreign policy. That today's Dems are cowards and won't launch wars. First of all, I don't know how sending somebody elses kids to war makes you brave. Second of all, back when Clinton was in power Republicans were the ones complaining about nation building and foreign adventures. They were the ones saying you could support the troops but not the war in Bosnia. IN FACT, Bush ran in 2000 against nation-building and for a more "humbler foreign policy."

How quickly some cons forget. All pacifists are liberals, but not every liberal is a pacifist.

While I don't claim to be a Liberal or a conservative I really think that Hagel is not afraid to call a spade a spade no matter what their political association is. I have to laugh at McCain who over the weekend said that things are going good in Baghdad as he strolled thru an open market with his flak jacket on and was surrounded by an army of security complete with Apache helicopters. Safe my @$$!!!! I am anxious to study more of what Chuck Hagel stands for.

Well, well, you seem to think you know who I am. You think that I embrace the religious right. Wrong I don't. I hate organized religion. You think that because Hagel has a couple of Purple Hearts he is some kind of Hero pied piper that I should follow. Well let me tell you something, I know at least 25 men who wouldn't except a purple heart if someone put a gun to their head, do you know why? It's because they feel that they were just doing their jobs, you know, like a carpenter that smashes his thumb while driving a nail.
I'm not trying to take anything away from Hagel, but a couple of purple hearts doesn't mean squat to me when judging a man's qualification for higher office.

The bottom line is I don't agree with Hagel because I don't know what he stands for. When you post a message like this and use the language you do that basically tells me to f*** off if I don't know your candidate then I have to assume that you are some kind of intolerant liberal and so is Hagel.

You know, their are so many divisions among the Republicans..yet they seem locked into keeping the party line. Then a lot of Democrats who like aspects of the Republican Party (like the true Conservatives) but cannot stomach what they have become on whole, now would be a perfect time to revolt amongst themselves and form a 3rd Party....then we might actually see a shake up and some real democracy...Mary.

Yes you speak truth. The Facist have taken over the Republican party and purged any real Conservatives.
Hagel is the ONLY Republican I would vote for. But then again Joe Biden is about the only Democrat I could vote for.

We need some viable third fourth and fifth parties

I used to be proud to call myself a conservative in the heyday of it all. Now as I look at my party, I feel squeamish. In social situations, I don't admit to it - politics and friends can't mix anymore. I am at the moment a registered Republican, though I cannot say I agree with Bush anymore.Yes, I voted for him as soon as I was legally able to, but his amnesty program, framing of border patrol agents, war policies, the deficit, national debt, and radically ideological "christian" views have caused inner conflict and turmoil in not only myself, but other cons such as myself. Conservatives are not evil and wrong, Bush and his Pinkerton-like stormtroopers and divine appointment views of his presidency are out of control and go unchecked and unchallenged, and this Spanish Inquisition of an administration is an embarrassment to the rest of us.
I would apologize for voting for him, but California is a blue state and my vote didn't make a difference except in my own mind...

Just look at how disrespectful the yahoo! answers Bushcons are to the memories of Abraham Lincoln Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan.

they have been told that the current Bush-mantra is the correct ideology, while avoiding the reality of Cheney and Rove stomping on the memory of the once great Republican party

True conservatives can disagree, yet have you over for dinner afterward. This Next-gen who call themselves conservatives haven't a clue as to what the party stood for.

A poster (below) blames the smoke, versus the flame. There is no doubt that today's group of republican conservatives have been over run and over ruled by a new crop of people who know absolutely nothing about the roots of conservatism. They are turning a rose into a thorn.

Anyone still supporting the President at this point is not a conservative, they are drones. I see the problem as this, two parts of the "conservative" body, where there used to be just one. There are the real conservatives, less taxation, smaller government and less government intrusion into our personal lives. Then there are the "christian conservatives" or social conservatives, who want to legislate every-ones morals while overlooking their own flaws. The GOP is imploding, their credibility is shot and the President and his administration feel as if they are untouchable. Truly sad.
