Sounds like a person who was never really accepted by anybody, and instead found that she can surround herself with animals to take the place of the friends she never had. Maybe she was hurt by people, and for her cats are comforting because they love her and won't say horrible things to her.

I knew a girl I used to work with like this. But she was only a year older than me! She stayed home all the time, never had a boyfriend, but had a large amount of cats to keep her company, and she was happy with that. I think she was just independant, without the need for a life partner, which some people are just that way. But of course we all still get lonely, so I guess the cats gave her the company she desired. She was a very nice person, though. She seemed totally normal to me, she just had no desire for a mate.

Maybe she cares about cats. I know a lady with more than that. She takes them in when because of illnesses and other reasons. She also visits healthy cats in alleyways and feels and cares for them. She's sane other than that. Not all people want children and husbands/wives. But everyone needs something/someone to be connected to. With 20 cats, I doubt she's lonely.

She might be a widow, who had a fabulas life living off her rich husband. But when he died, he didn't keave her a singal cent, so she decvided to get cats and make 75 cents, for every person to see her amazing cats. But kno one came, so now she's alone.
