In the book I read when I was pregnant, it states that a study in Australia of 192 women taking raspberry leaf tea or a placebo each day from 32 weeks showed that the women taking raspberry leaf tea had a shorter second stage of labour and a lower rate of forceps delivery than the women taking a placebo. The book recognises though that this is a small number of women to prove that it actually does have any benefits, that they would have to do a much larger scale study to be able to prove anything.

I took raspberry leaf capsules from about 34 weeks of pregnancy, I went into labour the day before I was due but my second stage of labour was a long one so goes against the study.

It is not claimed that raspberry leaf tea brings on labour - this is a common misconception!
If someone drinks a cup when they are 40 weeks pregnant, it is not going to make them go into labour!

What it does do is help to tone the uterus. This potentially makes labour quicker. Small scale studies back this up.

I personally think it's worth a try. It's only a cup of tea a day! Nothing is going to work for everyone, but it might make labour easier, so why not give it a go! It needs to be used from week 32 onwards.

Raspberry leaf tea is supposed to soften the cervix slowly so that it can make labour easier - I took it for the 2 months before I was due (had the capsules as didn't like the tea) but it was all for nothing as ended up with emergency c-section, but when you are in pain (labour) you will find it goes faster once you take the tea.

Raspberry leaf tea ;does not induce labour, but what it does do is help you have smooth, regular, productive contractions. I drank it on my last baby, my 5th, from 35 weeks on. My baby arrived three weeks early. I had a much shorter labour than the previous ones; my contractions were quite strong when they did get going, but i felt very much in control;I needed less pain relief; I dilated quicker; and I only had to push twice and he was out. I would recommend anyone to try it. I drank it twice or three times a day, good and strong, without milk. Get the real thing, the leaves themselves, rather than capsules.

about the water start, it may help to steer away from tearing by way of some stress being taken off the perineal area yet if you find yourself going to tear, extraordinarily because you've already got a tear that has been stitched interior the previous, you'll tear. it will be difficult to move once you've torn yet no longer no longer achieveable to get out of the start pool with help and from there the midwife and well being care specialist will dry you off and grant you with interior of reach anaesthetic to re-sew the wound if needed. in many cases, no longer some thing yet gas and air could be used for the time of a water start so as meaning no pethadine and no epidural obtainable. A water start does no longer be fallacious for you and also make sure to have one yet for sure at the same time as the toddler is crowning a medical crew will opt for to be on stand by technique of to sew you up if needed. with regard to raspberry leaf tea, it received't help you stretch (you'll and could nonetheless tear) and should be prevented in the previous complete-time period because it may reason solid uterine contractions bringing on pre-time period labour. it may help after start to help the uterus contract to that is common length swifter yet in case you don't like it then your uterus will contract certainly back to that is former state and raspberry leaf tea isn't mandatory. it ultimately be prevented in the previous 37 weeks of being pregnant even with the reality that.

Well it certainly never worked for me. I drank a cup a day from week 30 and still had to be induced as 42+2 had a 24 hour 2nd stage labour and baby was delivered with ventouse.

But I also tried, hot curry, sex, long walks, bumpy rides and any thing else that I was advised of.

A baby is only gonna come when its good and ready, but i have to agree, a hot curry and a good shag should help it along the way, as sperm has a hormone that they use to induce labour, and a hot curry will irritate the bowel which also can bring labour on....Have alos heard raspberry tea can also help.....but have never tried
