They are entering the Eurovision song contest AGAIN, as well as other European sports events. I realise I was at school a long time ago, but I like to think myself up on current events and I cannot recall when they entered the EU.

Israel is not a member of EU and a country does not have to be a member in order to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. Turkey is a regular at the ESC but is not a member of EU. New EU countries took part also before they joined up.

I wouldn't mind if UK actually won the blessed thing for once.

The word "Eurovision" is applicable to the European Wide television cable link and does not apply specifically to Europe.

Israel isnt part of the EU

Eurovision has nothing what so ever to do with the EU, it is organised by the European Broadcasting Union... although its dumb enough, patronising enough and expensive enough to be an EU scheme.

However there is nothing necessarily that stops Israel from applying to join the EU if it so wishes.. after all Turkey is thinking of applying.. at one stage various Northern African countries were being talked of as possible EU memebr nations.

being in Europe isn't neccesarily a requirement for EU membership, after all St Martin/St Maarten in the Caribbean is in the EU, along with other French possessions in the Caribbean and Pacific. Factually it was argued that it was the votes from overseas that swung the previous pro EU referendum (I think over the adoption of he Euro) in France.

There are way more entrants to the Eurovision "event" than the 25 nations of the of the EU

in the same way Israel is in UEFA... which is the European football region that is affiliated to FIFA... Israel's membership of Uefa has nothing to do with the EU.

if you are tired of life there some really fascinating stuff on the EBU website... apparently to add to their list of shame they were also the original minds behind "Jeu sans frontriers". Is thier no end to the EBU's criminal activity?

No, they've more sense than that. I never heard that a country had to be a member of EU to be in the eurovision contest.

Israel has not, and cannot enter the EU. Simple reason, they are not on the continent of Europe

The above person is full of crap. Turkey and others aren't in Europe but want in on the gravy train express that is the EU.

Israeli see themselves as Brit commonwealth members when they want to. Kind of like how Indians get onto brit shows too.
