I have had one plumber tell me to regularly fill my sink/tub with COLD water and then pull the plug to let the rush of water keep the pipes from clogging. However, a different plumber told me to do the same, but with HOT water. HELP!!!! I don't know what to do.

Cold water will do nothing. Clogs are normally caused by grease/oil and hair in the pipes. Castic drain cleaners go by the partial clog and out to the sewer system. Use an enzyme drain cleaner such as DrainCare by Zep. Enzyme cleaners cling to, and eat clogs. Safe for all drainage systems including septic tanks. Used once a month (following directions on the container) you should have no problem.

Pour a can of Coke down the drain every once in a while. It helps to eat away the scum.
