Can you still get a tan if you use spf.30?

I have fair skin but i want a little bit of a tan for prom. Also what is the best time of day to tan? I get out of school at 2. Would that be a good time?

I don't want to go to a tanning bed because they say that you have a better chance of getting skin cancer that way. Some girl at my school went everyday and now she has skin cancer.

I don't want a spray tan because that turns my skin orange. I have red undertones.

I spray it on...and lay out in the sun about 3 pm and it only takes like 5 to 8 mintues...the heat will dry the spray and darken up your skin later. well i was at ulta yesterday and there was this sunscreen that was byneutrogena and it let you protect you from a burn but you could control your tan nicely. you should look into that.
