My mother and I are planning an intervention for my sister who is 14 and claiming to be a lesbian. We acknowledge that she is out of her mind and want to actually get her committed to an institution to get help. We just found out last night and have no idea where to start.

erm... sorry but I don't quite get what you are saying here. You seriously want to send your sister away to an institution for being gay? You do know you can't change a persons sexuality right? What they can do in the institution is make you sister miserable by giving her harmful inhibitions.
Think about it, if so only for three seconds; how would you feel if someone forced you into being gay by telling you that "falling in love with guys is wrong and unnatural"?
You can try and brainwash your sister, but understand that her feelings will never go away. She may never act upon her feelings, never talk about them, but they Will still be there. Hence she will feel empty (never having the chance to fall in love) and she will feel constantly frustrated and spend her whole life being unhappy, just because you and your mother couldn't deal with her feelings.
Please try and keep an open mind, diversity is a good thing. This world would be terribly boring if all people acted and though exactly the same.

My gosh, you and your mother need some serious psychiatric help. Are you out of your mind? Do you have any idea how badly you will screw your sister up if you do this? If you love her at all, then you will leave her alone and accept her for who she is. Shame on you for even thinking about getting her committed for something like this. I'm so glad you're not my sister. Crack open a book and stop being ignorant.

committed to an institution?! are you out of your mind? why dont you take a long hard look at what happens to people who are sent to institutions? do you mean to tell me because she is not like you, that you want to put her in an institution, guess what, they are going to laugh at you, and perhaps put you and your mother in there for radical drug testings, shock therapy, constant phyco analysis making you and your mother into living zombies, and maybe once you really loose it after being stuck under lock and key they will be kind enough to give you both lobotomy's.
leave your sister alone, so not stir waters in which you have no idea, would you rather her into voodoo, or living with and visiting voodoo doctors daily? do you know what the orderlys do in there to young girls, wake up.
you dont have to like her choices, and she is 14, so her mother can make her choices for her at this time.
if you love your sister, dont f%*$ her up and ruin her entire life, you can leave that to her.

Let me just say I'm not one of "them" as you so eloquently put it. But my best friend is and you should let her live her own life the way she wants to. If she's a lesbian no amount of treatment is going to "cure" her. She'll just end up hating you. Honestly she isn't hurting anyone so leave her alone.

Leave your sister alone! You should be supporting her and stand by her now she is going through this very difficult stage in her life!
What does she do wrong? All she does is fall in love with girls... so what...
And besides, it's not a disease, it's not your fault or your mothers fault, she was born this way... she is the person who she is meant to be!

I take it you're joking? Are you looking to have her committed just for thinking she's a lesbian, or did she actually do something that requires a psychic evaluation...like thinking she's a fluffy bunny?
If you're serious...you should be looking not into having your sister committed, but family counseling for the three of you.
