I think that John Stockton is better as a player, but Isiah was with the team that won consecutive championships. John Stockton did not win with the Jazz even with Karl Malone. But John Stockton has the most steals and assists in history.

Stockton became the perfect organic factor protect of all time. Thomas became extra of a scorer, yet Stockton had the game to no longer only get his personal stats, yet undeniably advance each person round him. His courtroom creative and prescient and ball coping with skills were astounding, and his protection became consistently solid. no longer to assert Isiah wasn't an outstanding participant, yet compared to Stockton, that isn't any contest.

As a long-time Stockton fan, I'd say Stockton. Reasons: the assists that came when absolutely needed, the steals record which mostly came from ballhawking the passing lanes, the clutch baskets when he was the best option, the willingness to set picks on anyone on the opposing team to get his teammates free, the ability to make plays by sheer will and intelligence. Plus, he knew how to dictate the tempo of the game, how to pass the ball exactly the way the receiver wants it, and reads the floor better or as well as anyone who played the game. His past teammates other than Karl Malone and Jeff Hornacek included such lesser-known names as Bryon Russell, Chris Morris, Felton Spencer, Blue Edwards, an aging Tom Chambers, a slowed-down Danny Manning, Antoine Carr playing his last couple of seasons, Greg Ostertag, Howard Eisley, etc.
Thomas had superior ability in taking over a game offensively and the supreme desire to win. Stockton is sometimes unselfish to a fault, deferring to Jerry Sloan's playcalling instead of glorifying himself by making the play himself. Thomas had superior teammates during the back-to-back championships in Dumars, Rodman, Aguirre, Vinnie Johnson, Salley, Laimbeer, et al, all capable offensively as well as defensively. Plus Chuck Daly was one of the best tacticians of his era.
John Stockton is my all-time basketball hero, second only to Larry Bird.

Stockton was amazing. He was last generations steve nash. And you cant really argue that he wasnt as good because he didnt win any rings. He was on an incredibly small market team and the only support he had was Karl Malone.
