Hi Anna!

Mars will be in Opposition on December 24, 2007, this Christmas eve!

Currently, Mars is struggling to get out of the morning twilight for Northern Hemisphere observers. Those in the Southern Hemisphere are already seeing it, though, rather dim in the southeastern sky before sunrise.

Through this summer and autumn, 2007, Mars will move through the skies of the wee hours of the morning until November, when it will rise in the late evening. In December, it reaches its best, the most splendid object in the evening skies except for the moon. At Opposition, Christmas eve, when it is directly opposite the sun, it shines its best.

Mars and Earth align every 2 years and 2 months (26 months). The last opposition was in October of 2005 so the next one will occur in December of 2007. To be more exact, around the 27th of December.
